Hospitality Industry Awards

Oregon’s hospitality industry is brimming with outstanding individuals who go above and beyond, raising the bar for excellence in performance, service and commitment to the industry. As a highlight of ORLA’s Annual Convention, the Hospitality Industry Awards recognize the exemplary performance and qualities that set the high standards for the entire industry to achieve.

Restaurateurs of the Year:
Richard and Linda Becker, Hole in the Wall BBQ, Eugene

When asked what factors have lead to the enduring success of Hole in the Wall BBQ, owners Richard and Linda Becker synchronously answered, “quality and consistency.” The Eugene restaurateurs pride themselves on promoting the highest standards of quality and service, while maintaining their southern-style barbecue tradition that keeps people coming back for more. With two locations, a concessions division and a catering business, the Beckers have been busy growing their operation over the past 23 years - but not without the continued support of their community. In appreciation, they give heaps of time and resources in supporting numerous local charities and community activities.

Lodging Operator of the Year:
Al Munguia, Jupiter Hotel, Portland

Ask any employee at the Jupiter Hotel and they’d say that Al Munguia embodies what a general manager should be – a supportive leader. He has championed continuing education for his team, cultivating professional and personal growth. Under his management, the Jupiter has become an industry pioneer helping to develop the inner eastside of Portland through unique and beneficial partnerships. In serving on the Oregon Tourism Commission, Al continues to demonstrate his leadership in the hospitality industry, helping drive incremental business to Portland and Oregon through niche markets including international and LGBTQ groups.

Employee of the Year:
Sara Hohler, DoubleTree by Hilton, Portland

Starting at the front desk, Sara Hohler joined the DoubleTree team through an intern program while in high school. Over the next decade Sara showed accelerated drive and talent that promoted her through several positions landing in her current position of Accounts Receivable / Cashier. Sara’s exacting standards and sense of pride guide her every move. DoubleTree colleagues admire Sara’s enthusiasm, labeling her as a role model; she’s always willing to jump in and help find solutions. Beyond her assigned duties, Sara has become a champion for virtually every charitable or community project wherein the hotel participates.

Elliott, Powell, Baden & Baker, Portland

The team of Elliott, Powell, Baden & Baker (Epb&b) prides itself on excellent service, local attention, and community support.
