Recognizing Outstanding Restaurant Community Service

With nine in 10 restaurants involved in community service, the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation (NRAEF) works to raise awareness of the many philanthropic efforts taking place in the restaurant industry across America. NRAEF, together with American Express, created the Restaurant Neighbor Award to help honor restaurants who are actively involved in their community and honoring the positive contributions restaurants make in their local neighborhoods each and every day. 

Oregon Restaurant & Lodging Association (ORLA) honors Oregon's statewide restaurants during the Hospitality Industry Awards Dinner at the association's Convention. State finalists' nominations are forwarded to the NRAEF where restaurants from across the U.S. compete for $10,000 to continue their charitable works.

  • BAMBUZA Vietnam Kitchen, Portland
    Bambuza believes healthy food starts with a healthy community. They partner with local schools to advance educational opportunity and nonprofit organizations to help those in need locally and abroad. Making a positive impact in the communities they serve is one of their core values; supporting schools through fundraisers, serving food to the homeless, and partnering with international organizations to provide access to clean water to communities.

  • Papa’s Pizza Parlor, Eugene
    Family owned since 1971, Papa’s Pizza stays highly involved in the community through fundraisers, gift certificates and school scrip programs. “We have become family with our community… the stories of struggles and triumphs where we have been able to be a positive impact is how we measure our success.”

  • Salt & Straw Ice Cream, Portland
    Salt & Straw believes that a strong business can only exist as a part of a strong community – which is why they invest in many local programs to give back to the people who have created their success, including a collaborative educational program that raises money for local schools and supporting community organizations through donation days at shops to raise money for each cause. 

  • Standing Stone Brewing Company, Ashland
    At Standing Stone, they work to operate a restaurant and brewery in a way that protects and restores the environment and supports the health and happiness of their community, guests and employees. With a mission that includes a strong focus on giving back to employees and community, Standing Stone supports nonprofits that make their community a better place for everyone.
